Honouring Professor Shanthini Rosairo’s Contributions to Radiology in Sri Lanka

Professor Shanthini Rosairo retired on 3rd August 2026, following an outstanding 34-year- career dedicated to clinical radiology, medical education, postgraduate training, and the advancement of the radiology profession in Sri Lanka.

She served as a Senior Lecturer and subsequently as Professor in Radiology in the Department of Radiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya, while also serving as an Honorary Consultant Radiologist at Teaching Hospital Peradeniya. Professor Rosairo played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Department of Radiology in the University of Peradeniya, which is the only university-based Department of Radiology in Sri Lanka.

Throughout her career, she made significant contributions to both undergraduate and postgraduate education. She was actively involved in the training of numerous postgraduate radiology trainees, many of whom now serve as consultant radiologists both in Sri Lanka and overseas. Her commitment to teaching, mentorship, and academic excellence has had a lasting impact on generations of radiologists. She has a distinguished academic record, with numerous publications, book chapters, and presentations at national and international conferences.

Professor Rosairo has also made significant contributions to the Sri Lanka College of Radiologists. She served as President of the Sri Lanka College of Radiologists from 2016–2017, Secretary in 2008-2009, academic secretary in 2005-2006 and council member for many years. She was also serving as the chairperson Board of Study in Radiology, Post Graduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo from 2021 to 2023 and a member board of study in radiology for several years until her retirement. Through these roles, she contributed significantly to the development of postgraduate radiology training and the advancement of professional standards.
